As I write this, the novel coronavirus disease, known as COVID-19, has spread to all continents except Antarctica, and has infected 52 countries and territories. The total number of cases globally stands at 82,784, of which 46,617 cases are active, 33,350 cases are recovered, and there have been 2,817 deaths. A total of 60 cases have been confirmed in the United States, where I live, although 42 of those are people repatriated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship. The CDC yesterday confirmed the first case of COVID-19 in the U.S. for which the source cannot be traced. This first instance of community spreading is in California's Bay Area. There have so far been no deaths in the U.S. due to the virus.
I regret that I did not start this blog much sooner, given that I and a friend of mine have been tracking the developments since January. Of course, it was not evident then that we would be facing a coronavirus pandemic. But it didn't take long before we became concerned about the events taking place in China. We started sharing the information we found with our families in late January and early February.

There is so much research reflected in our communications prior to my starting this blog that I wish I could share here. Unfortunately, that would take an excessive amount of time to put together. At this point, it probably wouldn't serve a useful purpose anyway--there is far more information available to the public now than there was when we got started on this path.
In the meantime, here are several websites that are tracking COVID-19 infections around the world:
- Johns Hopkins
- COVID19info.live has several graphs and a tab for topical news
- BNOnews lists data in tabular form, with source links
- Worldometer shows active and closed case totals, linear and logarithmic graphs, as well as many other sections, such as symptoms, incubation period, mortality rate, expert opinions, transmission rate (R0), and incubation period. There is also a page specific to the USA.
- CDC Coronavirus Situation Summary
Here are three YouTube channels that have excellent reporting on coronavirus:
- Peak Prosperity: information, commentary, analysis, and an online community for discussing the convergence of global issues facing the economy, environment, and our energy needs.
- Dr. John Campbell: a Nurse Teacher and A and E nurse based in England
- MedCram: founded in 2012 by Dr. Roger Seheult and one of his former PA students, Kyle Allred
