Information Overload Has Been Reached

As I write this, the novel coronavirus disease, known as COVID-19, has spread to all continents except Antarctica, and has infected 52 countries and territories. The total number of cases globally stands at 82,784, of which 46,617 cases are active, 33,350 cases are recovered, and there have been 2,817 deaths. A total of 60 cases have been confirmed in the United States, where I live, although 42 of those are people repatriated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship. The CDC yesterday confirmed the first case of COVID-19 in the U.S. for which the source cannot be traced. This first instance of community spreading is in California's Bay Area. There have so far been no deaths in the U.S. due to the virus.

I regret that I did not start this blog much sooner, given that I and a friend of mine have been tracking the developments since January. Of course, it was not evident then that we would be facing a coronavirus pandemic. But it didn't take long before we became concerned about the events taking place in China. We started sharing the information we found with our families in late January and early February.

There is so much research reflected in our communications prior to my starting this blog that I wish I could share here. Unfortunately, that would take an excessive amount of time to put together. At this point, it probably wouldn't serve a useful purpose anyway--there is far more information available to the public now than there was when we got started on this path.

This week has been frenetic, with information coming in rapidly from all over the globe. It has become increasingly difficult for me to report on the situation while also staying current with my university studies. So today I am providing several places where people can find relevant, data-backed, scientific information on the coronavirus. As time allows, I will post updates, especially when I find information that isn't widely available yet.

In the meantime, here are several websites that are tracking COVID-19 infections around the world:
Here are three YouTube channels that have excellent reporting on coronavirus:
  • Peak Prosperity: information, commentary, analysis, and an online community for discussing the convergence of global issues facing the economy, environment, and our energy needs.
  • Dr. John Campbell: a Nurse Teacher and A and E nurse based in England
  • MedCram: founded in 2012 by Dr. Roger Seheult and one of his former PA students, Kyle Allred

What's Been Happening Today

Coronavirus Containment Has Failed "A leaked report claims that actual covid-19 cases within China are 52x higher than the 78K reported by authorities. "Since yesterday, new cases have been reported in Sweden, Greece, France, Spain, Germany, and, of course, Italy.... The virus appears as virulent as ever." Global infection is climbing at an exponential (non-linear) rate, with cases doubling worldwide every 4 to 5 days. This video report covers a lot of different aspects of the coronavirus situation as it stands today.
